Job Killing Toll Hikes On the Way

Drivers on the BeachLine Expressway are bracing for toll increases begininning July 1.

Transportation officials of the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority said, transponder tolls – E-pass/Sunpass – will increase by 9 percent while cash tolls will go up by $0.25.

A spokesperson at the Expressway Authority said, as an example, at the Pine Hills mainline, drivers who use a transponder and who currently pay $1.00 will see that increase to $1.09; those who use cash will pay $1.25 following the rate increase.

The Expressway Authority is encouraging drivers to make greater use of transponders, as opposed to cash, given the greater savings to be realized.

The Florida Turnpike will also be increasing tolls based on a decision of the state’s lawmakers.
