Jim Greer: RPOF Leaders are Liars, Racists

In a letter to Gov. Charlie Crist asking for a refund of his nearly $10,000 contribution, indicted former Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer used the occasion to lambaste the current leadership of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF), calling them liars, racists and extremists.

Greer wrote to Gov. Charlie Crist’s U.S. Senate campaign in a letter dated August 5th asking that the $9,600 contributed be returned as he needed the funds to defend himself and take care of his family.

“This is very hard for me to ask, but it has taken me some time to see that people I thought were my friends are not and never really were,” Greer wrote.

But Greer reserved his harshest words for the current RPOF leadership.

“The current RPOF leadership, including (Bill) McCollum, (John) Thrasher and many of the state committee members are simply liars, racists and extremists and while everyday Republicans and many within the RPOF are good people, the current bunch that are running the show will stop at nothing to cover for their won misdeeds,” Greer wrote.

Greer writes about his loyalty to Crist indicating that no one was more loyal than he was, “even when on so many occasions it was against my own interest.”

“When all of the others abandoned you (Crist), I remain loyal, committed and defended you and your policies to the RPOF which has caused me great hardship,” stated Greer.
He expresses the hope that the $9,600 will be sent back as soon as possible.

Crist’s campaign is in the process of returning the money, reports The News Service of Florida.

Greer, who is charged with six felony counts of grand theft, money laundering and attempted fraud, seems to suggest in his letter that he was brought down by the party because of his attempts to make changes within the organization.

“I am very proud of what RPOF accomplished during my term as chairman and no matter what lies are told, I and others know the many accomplishments which were made,” Greer wrote. “But I also now realize that making changes within the organization for the better including trying to make our party more inclusive would have severe consequences because those who wanted to take control of the party from you and I would stop at nothing.”

Greer’s trial is set to begin on October 18, in Orange County.  If convicted he faces as much as 75 years in prison.
