Wow, nice! Those were the first words I uttered to myself as I walked into the George Brown Convention center in downtown Houston.
The convention center is playing host to the 2013 NBA All-Star Jam session and All-Star practice.
The 2013 Jam session is packed with activities for all ages. From the family feud section with NBA legends AC Green and Muggsy Bogues to a 12 and under AAU tournament
If the great people of Houston aren’t having fun with this they need their pulse checked.
“It’s amazing to have the NBA showcase its best players here in my home town,” Candice James, a local teacher said.
I’ve never had the privilege of being in this gorgeous city before, but now that I’m here I may not go home.
After walking around and stuffing my face with chilli dogs I made my way to the West and East practice on the Sprint court.
As you could imagine the practice was very light-hearted and players who are rivals through an 82 game schedule seemed to be enjoying each others company.
I even caught Kobe Bryant chucking it up with Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook.
I’m all about players having rivalries, but it’s definitely cool to see these guys show appreciation to each others game.
Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra who was named head coach of the Eastern conference this year ran a few offensive sets for his guys.
On the other side San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich put in a few pick and rolls with his guys.
To wrap up practice each team participated in a half court contest, a game that the Eastern Conference won.
The day is only getting started. Tonight kicks off the skills challenge and dunk contest. This weekend is going to be packed with excitement!
