Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs, running for re-election, has nabbed the early endorsement of state and local law enforcement associations.

In a letter dated July 23, 2013, the state and local chapters of the Florida Police Benevolent Association, wrote the Jacobs campaign announcing their early endorsement of the mayor in her re-election bid.

“Florida Police Benevolent Association, Inc. and the Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Police Benevolent Association are proud to inform you of our endorsement of your candidacy for re-election as Mayor…  We will ask our members, their friends and families – and all citizens in the district who respect the strong and efficient enforcement of our laws, to cast their ballots in support of Teresa Jacobs,” stated Central Florida Chapter Trustee Paul Smalley in their endorsement letter to Jacobs.

Meanwhile, in late August, State Attorney Jeff Ashton fined Jacobs, along with four other commissioners for breaking the law, after they deleted text messages with powerful lobbyists on a sick-time initiative which the Board of County Commissioners would go on to shelve, based on the advice received from special interests.

It is not clear if Ashton’s findings on the “Textgate” scandal would have altered the Florida Police Benevolent Association’s “early endorsement” of Jacobs.
