Jacobs Kicks Off Road Safety Program

On January 24, Mayor Teresa Jacobs will kick off a road safety program targeting red light runners at ten locations throughout Orange County.

The announcement of the program will take place at the intersection of Old Winter Garden Road and Hiawassee Road, one of the ten intersections equipped to monitor red light violations and intersection safety, a statement from the mayor’s office said.

Jacobs plans to reveal the other locations at the launch of the 30-day public awareness campaign, announcing the date when enforcement begins and citations issued.

All ten locations are equipped with an Intersection Safety Camera operating 24 hours a day recording images of vehicles that enter the intersection after the traffic signal turns red.  Violators of red lights will be notified by mail and receive a digital image of the traffic violation along with a notice of a $158 fine.

Jacobs will be joined by former Orange County Commissioner Linda Stewart, a long-time advocate of red light cameras and pedestrian safety, to launch the program.
