Orange County Commission District 2 candidate, attorney Greg Jackson has locked in two key endorsements.

Apopka Mayor Joe Kilsheimer and Eatonville Mayor Bruce Mount threw their support behind Jackson saying, he is simply the best candidate for district 2. Former state Sen. George Stuart also announced he is backing Jackson.

The District 2 race is a hotly contested one. Jackson will face Eatonville Vice Mayor Alvin Moore; Navy veteran Prince Brown; state Rep. Bryan Nelson, (R-Apopka); corrections worker Patricia Rumph and write-in-candidate Bridgett Yvett Sykes in a primary election on August 26.

If no candidate clears 50 percent of the vote, the top two candidates will meet in a runoff on November 4, when the general election is held.

Moore, in a statement, brushed off the recent endorsements Jackson had picked up saying, on the Eatonville Town Council, he has had differences with Mount over the major’s salary. Also, Kilsheimer’s support of Jackson may have come because of a relationship the two had built during his recent mayoral race.

At a recent forum in Pine Hills, the candidates laid out their campaign platforms, including specific plans and programs for improving District 2.
