Florida’s Black Republicans are staggering all over themselves, intoxicated at the selection of Jennifer Carroll as the running mate of Rick Scott. Florida’s vaunted African American female Republican from Trinidad, has simultaneously given Mr. Scott token relevance and validated Florida’s Black Republicans.
Crawling out from under wherever it is that they hide when the GOP-dominated Legislature is pillaging and looting the 67 Florida County’s that are ravaged and decimated by their failed policies, these mighty Black Republicans can now scurry about, grinning and smiling at the brilliance of the Rick Scott choice.
Who are they fooling with these accolades and guffaws?
The Florida Republican Party has destroyed our state. They’ve reduced us all into the laughing stock of the nation, while we compete with Mississippi and Louisiana for last place in education, infant mortality, childhood poverty, domestic violence, teen pregnancy and school funding.
Florida, formerly known as The Sunshine State is now the ‘Foreclosure State’ with no light at the end of the tunnel. Yet the Good Old boys are promising even more cuts to state services, less funding for education and assurances that, most Floridians who are alive today will never see an improvement in the quality of life in this state.
Florida’s Black Republicans do deserve some applause, however. If anything, they should be nominated for the ‘Least of Them’ award because, they are the least likely to benefit from a Rick Scott victory. History proves that fact. Nothing will change with Rick Scott as governor, in the same way nothing changed under Charlie Crist or Jeb Bush.
More than likely however, they will be trotted out as proof that Florida Republicans do value black voters and that pulling 10% of the Black vote away from the non-inspiring Alex Sink will assure them a victory in November. There’ll be plenty of photo ops, lots of nice dinners and then it will be over and they’ll be escorted back to wherever it was they crawled out from.
Isn’t it pathetic?
This article is pathetic and sad. I can’t believe that in this day and age, where America elected its first Black President, you still have ill feelings towards Black Republicans. Black Republicans and many others helped to elect Obama. What about Jennifer Carroll that fears you or has made you jealous? Is it that she is a woman, black, veteran, immigrant, intelligent, accomplished, mother, wife or are you just mean spirited? Republicans get blamed for not having more minorities and when they have an accomplished minority at the top, you want to criticize them? Liberals are never pleased with other people’s happiness. Your democrat party claims to be so open mind and embrace all races ascending to higher heights, except when it is a Black Republican or a Black Democrat like Harold Ford who tried to be speaker of the U.S. House of Representative before Nancy Pelosi cut the run from under him.  We Independents and Republicans are very proud of what Jennifer Carroll has been able to accomplish in a world filled of liberals who would try to keep her down. She is a good role model for many young African-American females and I hope she continues to break glass ceilings paving the way for many more.
