Is Susannah Randolph Campaigning for Congress?

pictureA top aide of U.S. Congressman Alan Grayson appears to be actively campaigning for her boss’ seat, even though the Congressman with Guts has yet to make any decision on a possible run for Senate. Susannah Randolph, the wife of Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph, has been busy working back channels as she tries to solicit support for a potential congressional bid.

Randolph admitted her ambitions in May to Politico. “I wouldn’t say I’m interested. Yeah, I’d consider it for sure,” Randolph actually said at the time.

New reports confirm Randolph is already attempting to gain support from the local teachers union, which has surprised many and irked some who believe State Senator Darren Soto is the best potential candidate to succeed Grayson. It is likely Randolph has already pitched others, as she and her husband believe they can orchestrate members of the Democratic Party and community organizations they work closely with.

Sen. Soto is also a Democratic establishment favorite for the seat, which was drawn with the intent to enable the election of a Hispanic US representative. There is also a substantial overlap between Soto’s legislative district and the congressional district. Soto has made it clear he will run for the congressional seat if Grayson decides to run for Senate.

Despite her attempts so far, it does not appear as if Susannah Randolph’s early tactics are gaining any ground in a potential campaign. But it could signal the Randolphs are seriously considering taking on their former ally Soto and others in a bid, which could cause some local drama.
