Jesse Jackson Jr. has signed a plead deal with federal investigators, according to news reports.
Jackson, who resigned from Congress nearly three months ago following his re-election last November, could face jail time, but this would be up to a federal judge, according to NBC news.
The son of famed civil right leader, Jesse Jackson Sr., the younger Jackson, in addition to being treated for bi-polar disorder over the past several months, was the subject of a federal investigation. It is believed that Jackson used campaign contributions for his personal use, which is strictly prohibited.
According to NBC news, the terms of the plea deal, not yet made public, would entail Jackson repaying the government hundred of thousands of dollars, including $40,000 for a Rolex watch, furniture he purchased for his home and travel expenses for a woman who has been described as a “social acquaintance.”
Jackson’s wife, Sandi, is also under investigation for her role in the misuse of campaign funds. She recently resigned from her post as a Chicago city alderman.
