Although it didn’t become the monster storm that forecasters predicted and public officials had warned about, Hurricane Irene left millions without power along the Eastern Seaboard, at least two dozen dead and forced about 9,000 airline flights to be canceled. Overnight the storm cross into Canada leaving behind flood waters that threatened residents in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Vermont and upstate New York, as it felled trees and swept away cars and parts of bridges.
