In search of a problem: Voter Purge 2.0

Same old, same old!

Florida Supervisors of Elections are on guard with Gov. Rick Scott renewed push to purge noncitizens from the state’s voter rolls.

“(The state) is trying to look for an issue that doesn’t exist,” Volusia County’s Supervisor of Elections Ann McFall said, the news-journalonline reported.  “Many are on guard about the planned purge.”

McFall added that, the topic is one of several that election supervisors from 13 of the largest counties will take up when they meet today.

Also on high alert are several civil rights groups, including Florida New Majority and Advancement Project, who intend to oppose Scott’s second attempt at a voter purge.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Ken Detzner, heavily criticized over the 2012 voter purge which relied on flawed data, announced Wednesday that he will hold five meetings with county election officials in October on what he’s calling a “Project Integrity Tour.”

Last year, the state’s list of suspected non-U.S. citizens shrank from 182,000 to 2,600 to 198, before election supervisors called a halt to searches prior to the November presidential election.

Detzner, who hopes to get the backing of election supervisors for this new voter purge, will commence his “Project Integrity Tour” in October.
