An impaired driver was arrested after a deadly Central Florida crash under the Selmon Crosstown Expressway, facing a charge of DUI Manslaughter.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested a woman for driving under the influence following a crash that resulted in the death of her passenger.
Last month, at 2:31am, HCSO deputies responded to the area of 78th Street North under the Selmon Crosstown Expressway in Tampa after receiving a 911 call about a vehicle crash. The caller reported that a van had collided with the concrete median and was on fire.
Deputies arrived on the scene and pulled the driver and passenger from the burning vehicle. Both individuals were transported to Tampa General Hospital.
The driver, 51-year-old Maria Elena Menjivar, sustained minor injuries. The passenger, identified as 54-year-old Emilio Alfaro-Herrera, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Through the course of the investigation, deputies observed clear signs of impairment and Menjivar’s blood alcohol concentration was determined to be 0.200, more than twice the legal limit.
Maria Elena Menjivar is now facing one charge of DUI Manslaughter.
“There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel while impaired,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “One reckless decision took an innocent life. This tragedy should remind us all how devastating the consequences of impaired driving can be. Our hearts go out to the victim’s loved ones.”
This remains an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
But yet we continue to have bars open and we all know that DRIVERS will drive after being at a bar all night drinking and that the bartender allows them to leave drunk!!! Get rid of the bars and maybe there won’t be as many drunk drivers!!! People don’t drive high on weed they be to lazy eating snacks at home meth heads be well aware awake and drive with caution and or are too busy tweaking on things at their house to even want to leave and the ones on fetanyl be sleep most of their high time smh!!! Alcohol is the main issue here but yet we continue to allow bars to be open and people pull up and how you think they gonna leave out??? Cops might as well sit at the bars and just pull over ever car that leaves it’s a fuckin bar!!! Smh!!! Stupid sheeeit is all I can say!!!
