Total lane closure on Interstate 4 at Lee Road—and detours—are scheduled beginning Sunday night as construction on the westbound lanes enters its next phase. This is occurring so crews can cut grooves in the pavement that run perpendicular to the travel lanes. The grooves need to go across all the lanes without stopping. New road stripes will be put down as well. The project’s goal is to increase safety for the motoring public, especially during rain storms.
This involves two overnights of total lane closure on the westbound side, and detours. Here is the plan:
· 11p.m. Sunday, March 18 to 5:30 a.m. Monday March 19
Groove across all lanes of I-4 and install thermoplastic striping
· 11p.m. Monday, March 19 to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday March 20
Groove across all lanes of I-4 and install thermoplastic striping
Alternate detour and closures, if delayed by weather:
· 11p.m. Tuesday, March 20 to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday March 21
Groove across all lanes of I-4 and install thermoplastic striping
· 11p.m. Wednesday, March 21 to 5:30 a.m. Thursday March 22
Groove across all lanes of I-4 and install thermoplastic striping
Motorists should follow the detour signs on the corridor, which directs them to:
· EXIT westbound I-4 at Lee Road
· Take Lee Road—east—to US 17-92
· Take US 17-92—south—to Fairbanks Avenue
· Take Fairbanks Avenue—west—to I-4.
Atlantic Civil Constructors is performing the work. The project cost is $221,454. The first phase of the project, which began last weekend, included the installation of improved drainage inlets.
Drive with caution and care, and buckle up. Safety belts save lives.
