Hurricane Rina is about 200 miles east of the Mexico-Belize border this morning, but all of South Florida and up almost to the Tampa Bay area on the Gulf side are within the possible path of the storm. There’s a slight chance of tropical storm force winds the next five days, the Division of Emergency Management said Wednesday.
It’s still too early to tell whether the system will significantly impact Florida, the agency said, though rain from the system is expected in the Keys as early as Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, the Government of Mexico has issued a hurricane warning for the northeast coast of the Yucatan Peninsula from Cancunm to San Felipe. A tropical storm warning for the north coast of the Yucatan Peninsula west of San Felipe to Progreso has been issued.
A tropical strom watch is in effect for the coast of Belize from Belize City northward and the Honduran Bay Islands of Roatan and Guanaja.
