Since notifying parents of the Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP) on July 14, Orange County Public Schools has received hundreds of applications requesting transfers for children to attend higher performing public schools.
The Opportunity Scholarship Program allows parents whose children are assigned to a school which has received a “D” or “F”, to remain at the same school, transfer to a higher performing school within the district, remain at the zoned school with tutoring or transfer to another school within the state of Florida.
According to a spokesperson for OCPS, close to 350 applications have been received under the OSP, including 103 from Evans High School, as of July 21.
Parents have until July 28 to submit applications and transfers do not guarantee continued enrollment in a magnet, IB program or athletic eligibility.
OCPS students can transfer out of 11 schools. These are: Colonial, Edgewater, Evans, Jones and Oak Ridge High school; Carver Middle School and Catalina, Kaley, Richmond Heights, Ridgewood Park and Wheatley Elementary School.
