Human remains were accidentally found in the woods Tuesday in Lakeland, Polk County deputies said.

Investigators said, a Tampa man was looking for scrap metal around 9:00 a.m., on North Wabash Avenue, between Memorial Boulevard and Crutchfield Road, when he came upon a large blue plastic container containing human skull and some bones.  Other bones were scattered near the container, deputies said.

The man alerted Polk County deputies who went to the location and began processing the scene.

The bones will be taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for examination to hopefully identify the deceased person and determine his or her cause of death, deputies said.  The bones appear to be those of an adult.
