Howard Serves Food to Needy at Homeless Coalition

A serious-looking and bespectacled Dwight Howard, along with other members of the Orlando Magic family and NBA Cares, took time out during the NBA All-Star Weekend, to educate and bring cheer to needy families at the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.

Magic CEO Alex Martins, Magic Chairman Dan DeVos and NBA Commissioner David Stern passed out meals and drinks at the facility while Howard bussed tables and interacted with fans. Other NBA legends, such as David Robinson and Bob Lanier, worked at the facility painting murals and spreading mulch throughout playground areas.

Howard was an active participant in last week’s cooking demonstration at the Coalition. The goal was to teach residents ways to make affordable meals that can last for long periods of time with the proper storage. After joking around that his favorite foods were McDonald’s hamburgers and his favorite healthy food was McDonald’s chicken nuggets, Howard got serious about the cause.

“There are millions of people in America every day who go without food, so we want to do what we can to help them learn how to cook meals properly,” Howard said.

For more than 20 years, the Magic have partnered with the Coalition for the Homeless in an attempt to share resources with the center and bring smiles to the faces of those staying there.
