How Sweaty is Orlando? Sweatiest City in America Named

For many people around the country, summer means not just heat but worse — sweat. And since the matchmaking experts at MyDatingAdviser.com love the heat, they have compiled a ranking of the sweatiest cities in America by comparing the 200 largest metro areas.

Not all hot places are created equal: Sweatiness is more related to humidity and population density than straight-up temperature. So here are the rankings:

Orlando has been named the “No. 1 sweatiest city in America,” according to the MyDatingAdviser.com study.

What makes Orlando such a sweaty place? According to the study, several data points prove the point. The average temperature in July is 83.5 °F, with 92 °F (high) and 75 °F (low) for starters. The length of the summer season is 4.4 months (although local residents will think summer lasts far longer than that).

The study also found Orlando’s relative humidity in July is 78% and there are 97 days above 90 degrees in the year. They found the population density is over 2,642 people per square mile and the local exercise rate of the population is 50.6%.

“Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, we looked at various environmental factors to pinpoint ‘hot spots’ across the country,” said Amy Pritchett, Editor-in-Chief at MyDatingAdviser.com. “The study factored in the average summer temperatures of each city and proximity to large bodies of water. In addition, the exercise rate of the population, as well as population density and major sporting events, were also considered for the rankings, knowing that more frequent exercise and crowded events lead to a city’s overall sweatiness.”

Four Florida cities made the top 10 list.

To determine the sweatiest cities in the nation, MyDatingAdviser.com compared 200 of the largest metro areas across three categories: 1) Weather, 2) Sweat Factors, and 3) Cooling Off. They then evaluated each area using 12 data points of perspiration friendliness. These data points included statistics such as the average summer temperature, number of days above 90 degrees, the popularity of public transport, and the amount of shade and bodies of water for cooling off.
