How Not To Squander An Election: A Primer for Charlie Crist and Florida’s Democrats

The latest move by Florida Democrats, pitting Hispanics against Blacks, has backfired.

The so-called People’s Team, self-described by the Crist Campaign, with an immigration over inclusion theme, will probably cost the Republican-turned Democrat a victory this November.

And everybody’s whispering about it.

Hey Charlie, are you listening?

Who could have possibly advised the Crist campaign to exclude Black women, Black advisors and Black media from the campaign in favor of Hispanics?

Misdirected and racist, the emerging, Hispanics-first mindset will prove to be calamitous for Florida Democrats who never seem to disappoint when it comes to losing an election.

A sleeping giant, Florida’s formidable Black vote, has sat up and taken notice.

They’ve noticed the preference being given to Hispanics in the  campaign.

They’re watching with disbelief as what little access, previously granted after many hard-fought battles, slowly slips away, with many contracts and opportunities now favoring foreign-born Hispanics, Central and South Americans, whose white skin privilege and long-standing anti-Black sentiments are well-known.

These new Americans, eager to assimilate, see African Americans as weak, voiceless and timid. A creeping fear of ‘they wanna eat our lunch’ mindset has alarmed much of Black Florida.

And now this.

Without the African American vote, Charlie Crist is sure to lose. But the Crist team in its arrogance has decided to limit their input and involvement.

The hated and reviled Rick Scott is suddenly not that bad. Who could have predicted that?

Scott, the anti-family, steward of Florida’s declining stature and low household incomes, is ahead in the polls. And, despite wrecking the place, turning historic dysfunction into downright ineptitude, he is well on his way to a second term.

Shameless incompetence is all that can be said about the Florida Democratic Party. A sure thing is now a ‘woulda-coulda-shoulda.’

A chance to defeat Scott and regain some respect has been dutifully pissed away.

Or will be.

Someone better tell Charlie that the Black folks are still outside looking in.

And there’s a storm coming.
