Deputy shot at by drug suspect

UPDATE:

The name of the suspect is Tavarious Sevilla, 21 years old.

Servilla has an extensive rap sheet having been arrested 24 times between 2002-2009.   Over these seven years he has been charged with theft, battery, aggravated assault with a fire arm, robbery with a fire arm and first degree murder with a firearm.

At approximately 11:30 AM today, May 20, 2009, three Orange County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol Deputies were on routine patrol when they observed marijuana inside a vehicle parked in front of a business at 2702 Silver Star Road.  When they confronted a man who returned to the car he ran, turned and fired at least one shot from a handgun at a deputy who was in foot pursuit of the suspect.  The deputy took cover and returned fire at the suspect who continued to run.

The suspect ran into a business located in a shopping plaza at the intersection of Pine Hills and Silver Star Roads and, after briefly refusing to exit the business, surrendered to deputies who had responded to the foot pursuit/shots fired call.  There are no reports of injuries relating to the exchange of gunfire.

This incident is the subject of an ongoing investigation.
