Hit and Run Driver who Kills Two Surrenders to Police

A man who mowed down two people on State Road 44 on Tuesday night, but kept going, is now in police custody.

Brian Dale Kennedy, 37, turned himself over to New Smyrna Beach police on Wednesday afternoon, hours after cops appealed to the public for help in the case.

Savannah Jo Dejarnette, 26, and Zachary Tyler Kahle, 24, were found dead on the side of State Road 44 at La Boca Drive around 11:00 p.m., on Tuesday night, after police say, they had been hit.  The two were found by a man riding a scooter who alerted police.

Families of the victims are stunned over the double tragedy, according to news reports.

Kennedy has been charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.  If convicted he faces up to 30 years in prison.
