The Orange County Regional History Center will offer free museum admission to all active duty military personnel and their families the day after Memorial Day, May 28, through the day before Labor Day, September 1, 2013. The museum will be closed on both Memorial Day and Labor Day. This offer is part of Blue Star Museums, a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,800 museums across America. Leadership support has been provided by MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families.
Active military personnel and their families can trace Central Florida’s fascinating history from Indian settlement to small town surrounded by citrus groves and cattle ranches to military hub to today’s tourist-centric community. Visitors can enjoy the summer season of our A Year in the Life: Backstage to Onstage at Universal Orlando® Resort exhibition, where they can put on their own fireworks show, learn to the “hop dance” from the Superstar Parade, master sound effects at our foley table, and immerse themselves in a 3D movie magic experience. Visitors can also enjoy special demonstrations and Q&A sessions with experts from Universal Orlando resort on select days. Visit thehistorycenter.org for a full schedule.
This year, more than 1,800 museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa are taking part in the initiative, including more than 450 new museums this year. The effort to recruit museums has involved partnerships with the American Association of Museums, the Association of Art Museum Directors, the Association of Children’s Museums, the American Association of State and Local History, and the Association of Science-Technology Centers.
