Hispanic Teen Arrested After Fatal Shooting Near UCF

Orange County deputies take Charles Dessus, murder suspect, into custody, Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Orange County deputies arrested an 18-year-old who they say is responsible for the shooting death of a 24-year-old man last Saturday on Orange County’s east side.

Charles Dessus, 18, was taken into custody around 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday and charged with first degree murder.

Investigators say, Dessus shot and killed Brandon Benjamin, 24, as he left a party at The Gatherings apartments early on Saturday morning. It is believed that Benjamin got caught up in an argument as he left the party at 3852 Gathering Drive off University Boulevard near UCF.

Investigators have not provided any details on how Dessus was apprehended, but yesterday released video of a pickup truck that was in the area of Benjamin’s fatal shooting. It is believed that Dessus was a passenger in the pickup truck when he open fired and killed Benjamin.

Deputies questioned Dessus for hours earlier today and subsequently charged him with first degree murder of Brandon Benjamin.  He was later transported to the Orange County Jail.

Deputies say, their investigation is continuing.
