Hillsborough County Awarded Safety Subgrant from FDOT

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a traffic safety subgrant in the amount of $100,000 by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for Occupant Protection Education and Enforcement Operation.

According to the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), of the 23,824 passenger vehicle occupants killed in 2020, 51% were not wearing safety belts; of the 1,745 passenger vehicle occupants killed in the state of Florida, 47% were unrestrained.

The purpose of this program is to educate the community about the importance of occupant protection and conduct high visibility operations in an effort to decrease occupant protection-related injuries and fatalities in Hillsborough County.

This grant will reimburse HCSO for overtime salary and benefits for law enforcement officers in the amount of $100,000.

The Occupant Protection Education and Enforcement Operation will run through September 30, 2024.
