Four teens are in a Brevard County jail for leading deputies on a high speed chase through two counties after they carjacked the owner of a pickup truck in Brevard County during an armed robbery.
Deputies said that the owner of the truck was carjacked in Brevard County around 2:00 pm on Wednesday and the suspects took off eventually heading eastbound on the Beachline Expressway around 3:12 pm. Alerted by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County deputies were quickly able to deploy and position its helicopter to monitor the suspects’ location, while units on the ground concentrated on protecting motorists from the increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior of the fleeing suspects.
Deputies said that around 3:15 pm, the teens left Orange County and continued to flee into Brevard, where they were stopped by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office units
around 3:17 pm.
The driver of the truck has been identified as Stephon D. King, 19 years. King has been charged with carjacking and aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers.
King is reported to have said that the dangerous high speed race in which he was engaged, was “fun”, as deputies couldn’t catch him.
Deputies said that the three other teens traveling with King, ranging in ages from 15 to 17 years, will also be charged with carjacking and aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement. The three teens, it is reported, encouraged King to engage in the high speed chase with deputies.
All four were booked into the Brevard County Jail on Wednesday.
