A teenager was found dead on the Chain of Lakes Trail on Monday morning and investigators believe that she was murdered.
Winter Haven police have identified the teen as 18-year-old Alicia Dorene Barnett, of Poinciana.
Barnett’s body was located around 8:00 a.m. on the northern section of the trail that borders the neighborhood of Carefree Cove.
Police say, Barnett, who attended New Beginnings High School, sustained injuries that are consistent with a homicide.
Investigators have not located a suspect in this murder, nor have they said how Barnett was killed.
“It is important for the public to call us with any information they may have regarding this case,” said Chief Gary Hester. “Anyone who was in the area at the time could have seen or heard something that could lead us to find the killer of Miss Barnett.”
