As defense attorney John Trevena argued Tuesday that his 19-year-old client should be released from jail despite being charged with first-degree murder, Jennifer Mee stood by his side and sobbed.
“I would like to reiterate to the court that Ms. Mee is only 19 years of age and has absolutely no prior record of any kind,” Trevena said. “She has never been arrested before, and this has been her first experience with the criminal justice system.”
Mee, along with two other accomplices, Laron Raiford, 20, and Lamont Newton, 22, has been charged with first degree murder of Shannon A. Griffin on October 23, 2010. Griffin was found with “several gunshot wounds to his upper body”, police said.
