Heat Index Could Hit 110 Degrees

Temperatures are expected to hit 96 degrees in Orange County today and remain in the middle to upper 90’s through the week-end.  Forecasters say, the heat index could hit 110 degrees and temperatures could be close to record levels. The remnants of Tropical Storm Emily could dump some scattered showers later today, but meteorologists expect the weather to remain hot and stuffy.

Residents are being encouraged to take precautions and needed several steps to prevent health heat-related illnesses, injuries, and deaths during hot weather.  Here are a few tips:

  •     Stay cool indoors.
  •     Drink plenty of fluids.
  •     Replace salt and minerals.
  •     Wear appropriate clothing and sunscreen.
  •     Schedule outdoor activities carefully.
  •     Pace yourself.
  •     Monitor people at high risk.
  •     Do not leave children or pets in cars.
  •     Use common sense.
