Healthy West Orange Trails Connection to Award $500,000 to Local Organizations

The Healthy West Orange Trails Connection (HWOTC) announced it will award $500,000 to local organizations through its Trail Project Grant Program. Organizations will receive up to $50,000 to support short-term projects that promote, activate, or enhance the trail network in west Orange County.

As the largest grassroots coalition for trail activation and development in Central Florida, HWOTC is a collaborative group of five partner cities and towns in West Orange County and several supporting agencies. The Foundation for a Healthier West Orange was entrusted with a grant that enabled the formation of the collaboration and ensures compliance for the use of funds. Bike/Walk Central Florida has been engaged to facilitate the grant process.

Healthy West Orange Trails Connection Since its formation, HWOTC has collaborated with partner cities and agencies to implement various initiatives, including safety enhancements, environmental restoration, and technological advancements for future development surrounding the trail.

“Trails not only encourage physical activity but are also crucial for building social connections and community engagement,” said Ginger Corless, HWOTC executive committee member. “HWOTC invites eligible organizations to apply with innovative projects that will enhance West Orange green spaces and overall community well-being.”
