It took exactly one year, but a Orlando man was arrested earlier this week, accused of aggravated battery in the death of another man, Orange County deputies say.
31-year-old Jermaine Toler was taken into custody on Dutton Drive in Orlando on Wednesday. Investigators say, he is responsible for the death of Julius Gordon, on September 20, 2011, one year ago.
Witnesses told investigators they observed the suspect, later identified as Toler, follow Gordon on September 19, 2011 to the rooming house on 4232 West Jackson Street where he lived, knocked him to the floor and repeatedly kicked him in the head.
According to the incident report, Toler then reached into Gordon’s pocket as he lay on the floor and removed cash from his pocket, saying, “He owes me money.” Toler then fled the area.
Gordon died the following day at the Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Deputies said, it took one year to track down witnesses, obtain forensics and put together other pertinent information to obtain an arrest warrant for Toler.
Toler, who has been charged with second degree murder, was booked into the Orange County Jail. The suspect has a long rap sheet dating back to 1999 to include, cocaine possession, burglary of an occupied dwelling and aggravated battery.
