Senate President Mike Haridopolos supports the Central Florida commuter rail SunRail going forward if the 25 percent share of the cost the state is supposed to contribute doesn’t change, and said Thursday he thinks Gov. Rick Scott will agree.
Scott is expected to make a decision this week on whether to let the project, approved by lawmakers in 2009, go forward.
“My guess is he’s going to OK it,” if he is convinced that the state won’t somehow be on the hook for more than 25 percent of the cost, Haridopolos said while speaking to reporters after an event in St. Petersburg.
Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, said that if the cost were to end up being more for the state, “we’d have to look at it again.” But as long as it remains a 25 percent contribution that was agreed to by lawmakers two years ago, the project should go forward, he said.
