More than one hundred Haitian migrants recently arrived in a sailboat off the lower Florida Keys.
In Key West, at approximately 4:00am, U.S. Border Patrol agents with support from federal, state and local law enforcement partners responded to the migrant landing and encountered 118 Haitian migrants.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, most of the migrants were male, but some were female and children. Local EMS was on scene to evaluate the individuals.
The 118 Haitian migrants were medically cleared and transferred to local Border Patrol Stations, where they were to be interviewed and processed, according to Acting Chief Patrol Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol of the Miami Sector Samuel Briggs II.
He added that Border Patrol greatly appreciates the support from all of the responding agencies and local residents in the Florida Keys area.
