A Haines City teacher was arrested over the week-end and charged with possession of marijuana, after the drug was found in her vehicle during a traffic stop.

36-year-old Donya Leigh-Anne Dennard, of Winter Haven, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of paraphernalia and booked into the Polk County Jail on Saturday.

Dennard failed to come to a complete stop at a posted stop sign at Shamrock Drive East and Highway 17-92 and a traffic stop was initiated, according to authorities.

The deputy, who detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, asked for consent to search Dennard’s car, whereon she advised that there was something illegal in the vehicle.   Dennard told the deputy she had a bag of cannabis in the vehicle.

Three separate bags of cannabis were found in the vehicle with a total weight of 19.8 grams, investigators said.

Dennard told the deputy she is a teacher at Daniel Jenkins Academy in Haines City.  She was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail but has since bonded out.
