Habitat looks to “new urbanism” community at Butler’s Preserve

houses11With the completion of its first multifamily community, Stag Horn Villas in the Pine Hills area, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando has turned its attention to Butler’s Preserve in west Orange County.

The plan is to build some 59 affordable homes at Butler’s Preserve in the Malibu Groves area in west Orlando County, said Dee Danmeyer, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando. Named after Mable Butler, a longtime advocate for affordable housing and former District 6 Orange County Commissioner, Butler’s Preserve has lacked adequate and affordable housing for more than 20 years.

Habitat recently raised over $80,000 at its “What Will You Build?” fundraising breakfast, attended by more than 200 business and community leaders.

A celebration will be held on World Habitat Day, October 7, at Stag Horn Villas, home to 58 families, to mark the completion of the multifamily community. Stag Horn Villas is located at 4650 Stag Horn Drive in Orlando.
