Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area ReStore is currently gearing up to open its third Central Florida retail facility in South Orlando. Beginning November 22, the ReStore will accept gently used household goods and building materials on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Donations can also be scheduled for pick-up at no charge. The new store, located at 1649 Florida Mall Blvd. in Orlando, is slated to open in January 2014.
In addition to the aforementioned items, the ReStore also accepts home décor, appliances, furniture and hardware. Proceeds from store sales fund Habitat’s mission of providing affordable housing for low-income families.
“Over the last decade, we’ve seen our customer and donor base grow exponentially,” said Tom May, director of retail operations for all three Habitat of Greater Orlando Restores. “When people donate unwanted items, they prefer to give their belongings to nonprofits that make a difference. This new location will provide residents in south Orlando with that opportunity.”
The new ReStore will also have a different look from the other locations in Central Florida. Thanks to Winter Park-based HGR Construction, which is donating its time to build-out the 24,000 square-foot facility, the interior will resemble townhomes from the nonprofit’s first multi-family community Stag Horn Villas.
“We’re pleased to offer our services to Habitat of Greater Orlando,” said Carson Brownell, senior vice president and partner of HGR Construction. “We’ve been part of the Central Florida community for many years, and we’re honored to support a project that strives to provide homes for our local families.”
Donations can be made directly to the ReStore. For more information, visit http://www.orlandorestore.org/ or call the donor hotline at (407) 426-7859.
