Habitat Among Top Biggest Builders with Orlando’s Help

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area helped Habitat for Humanity International achieve the rank of number six on Builder magazine’s “Builder 100 List,” marking the second time the nonprofit has been among the top 10 biggest builders in the United States. With 6,032 homes closing last year, Habitat International moved up two spots in 2010 from its 2009 ranking of number eight.

In 2010, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area built 12 townhomes. In addition, the organization has partnered with Orange County and purchased seven foreclosures through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Two homes have been completed, the remaining five are under construction. This year, the Orlando affiliate has 19 townhomes and four foreclosure rehabs slated for completion.

“It’s important to note that this accomplishment could not have been achieved without the support from our volunteers and the generous contributions from our sponsors and donors,” said Dee Danmeyer, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area. “They are the reason we are able to continue to build and rehab homes for hardworking Central Florida families.”

Builder magazine’s annual “Builder 100 List” compiles data provided by the nation’s builders, including their closings.
