Another Haitian Home Invasion

Deputies continue their investigation into a home invasion and what initially was thought to be an armed kidnapping of a seven-month-old baby boy at a home on Silver Hills Drive.

Detectives responded to 2692 Silver Hills Road around 10:20 pm on Sunday night in response to a report of shots fired inside the residence and what appeared to be an armed kidnapping of a baby boy.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies learned that Richard Joacin, 18, had gone to the home of his sister, Vanessa Joacin, 20, and mother of the seven-month-old baby, to chat.  While brother and sister chatted outside the apartment, they were surprised by a group of black males who rushed into Vanessa’s apartment and fired several gunshots.  The suspects fled the area, possibly in an unknown vehicle.

Richard, in fear for this life, ran from the scene with the baby boy when the suspects rushed into the apartment and began shooting.  He returned around 11:55 pm with the infant.

Detectives do not believe that this incident was a kidnapping.  Based on the investigation so far, they believe that it was one of aggravated assault with a firearm.  Also, deputies believe that Richard was in fear of his life and that of the baby when he fled the scene.

There were no injuries to the baby or anyone else in this incident.

The suspects remain unidentified and at large.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crimeline at # 1-800-423-8477.  Callers may remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.

The investigation is continuing.
