Guilty: Ex-Expressway Authority Member Convicted of Bribery

Scott Batterson found guilty on bribery and solicitation charges

On Wednesday, a jury found Scott Batterson, a former member of the Orlando-Orange County Express Authority, guilty of bribery.

Batterson was convicted of bribery and soliciting unlawful compensation as a public official.

Testimony revealed Batterson offered a businessman of an engineering firm a contract worth $5 million a year, if the the firm would agree to hire his friend, according to reports.

Meanwhile, in April when Batterson was indicted on bribery charges by the Grand Jury, Eatonville Vice Alvin Moore and candidate for Orange County Commission called for his opponent State Rep. Bryan Nelson to return all contributions to his County Commission campaign linked to Batterson and his associates.

Nelson will face Moore in a runoff election in November in the District 2 Orange County Commission race.

Today, learning of Batterson’s conviction, Moore again called on Nelson to return the tainted campaign contributions.

“After 125 days, Rep. Nelson has still refused to return the tainted money linked to the “Culture of Corruption” that a previous Grand Jury called the Expressway Authority,” Moore said in a statement.

Moore added: “I don’t think Orange County residents want a Commissioner who can’t tell right from wrong. It’s already bad enough Nelson has already spent $127,000 in Tallahassee special interest money trying to buy a seat on the Commission.”

The contributions total $2,000.

Batterson faces up to 30 years in prison.
