Bringing pure country to the Strawberry Festival in Plant City, Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis are scheduled to perform at 3:30 pm on March 4th. Backed by 28 top 10 hits, 12 number 1’s, numerous awards, including multiple Grammy, CMA, ACM, and IBMA awards, the duo have sold over 18 million records.

Showcased by “Something in Red,” Lorrie Morgan’s genuine delivery, fused by true passion, remains a steady play on country stations. Steadfast to her traditional roots, Ms. Morgan promises the concert at Plant City will stay true as the acoustic duo delivers songs from the past and hints of upcoming releases.

The Strawberry Festival is fortunate to have such an esteemed tag team of Pam and Lorrie land in our backyard. For example, Lorrie Morgan:

* Became the youngest singer to join the Grand Ole Opry in 1984 (age 24)
* Received the Country Music Association (CMA) “Vocal Event of the Year” with Keith Whitley
* Won the CMA Album of the Year with “Common Thread: Songs of the Eagles”
* Won multiple TNN/Music City News Awards “Female Artist of the Year”
* Performed with Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, Keith Whitley, Sammy Kershaw, and Jon Randall

During a recent ironing session, I had the pleasure of speaking to Ms. Morgan:

Question: Between you and Ms. Tillis, who is the most maintenance challenged?

Ms. Morgan: No doubt, I require much more pampering than Pam. Between hair, makeup, clothes, keeping up can be a test.

Question: What is the most comical thing that has happened to you two thus far during the Grits and Glamour tour?

Ms. Morgan: Really not comical but it had to do with clothing. We were about to go on stage and runs forced us to change outfits. Needless to say, we got it together in time.

Question: What was the story behind “Something in Red?”

Ms. Morgan: I was unsure about the song at first. As a matter of fact, I turned the song down at least four times because of a dark ending. Fortunately I was convinced and finally listened to the conclusion and so glad for it.

Question: How has your music adapted to the contemporary country style?

Ms. Morgan: I don’t bring bells and whistles. For those wanting a more intimate setting, Pam and I will be bringing our instruments to the stage and enjoy the afternoon singing.

Question: What advice would you like to share for aspiring musicians desiring to break into the music scene?

Ms. Morgan: When it’s time, it’s time. You must be patient and never give up. My son, Jesse, is going through the music business now. Don’t give up on your dreams and enjoy.

Question: Touring is difficult on many levels, personal and professional. What do you find as the most difficult challenge while on tour?

Ms. Morgan: Rest!

Grits & Glamour’s Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis sparkle and shine with a down home rootsy nature that inspires others to embrace the Grits and Glamour of their own lives. For those seeking first class country music, see you Monday afternoon and, while you’re there, stick around and enjoy the music of country superstar Dwight Yoakum.

Anticipating standing room only, see you at the fair,
