Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson is not known for his reticence on speaking out on key issues. Over the last few months, Grayson condemned Republicans saying that they should be dubbed the “selfish party” for their refusal to work with Democrats to fashion a health care bill that would benefit some 40 million uninsured Americans. He said that for Republicans their idea of health care is for sick people to “die quickly”.
But the Orlando Congressman, has now turned his attention to his own party, publicly criticizing Obama’s Afghanistan war strategy and the troop build up of and additional 30,000 soldiers.
“We just can’t afford it anymore,” Grayson said just prior to going on stage at the Democrat Club of Sarasota fundraising dinner.
According to Grayson, it cost America less annually, to overhaul health care than to have US troops in Afghanistan.
Herald Tribune: Grayson’s angst over Obama’s Afghanistan position typifies growing frustrations among Democrats with Obama on a host of issues over the last several weeks.
Just last week, black Democrats in Congress complained publicly about what they deemed the Obama administration’s inattention to the economic struggles of minorities. U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., went so far as to say some Democrats will begin to vote with Republicans on key issues if Obama doesn’t spend more time addressing their needs.
