Grappler Technology Helps Central Florida Deputies Stop Dangerous Drivers

The Grappler technology is helping Central Florida deputies stop dangerous drivers.

This new technology was recently added to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles. Using the Grappler, drivers attempting to evade deputies are being safely stopped.

The system deploys a tether that secures to a vehicle’s rear tire, allowing deputies to gradually slow and safely stop a moving vehicle.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has installed Grappler devices on 50 patrol vehicles as part of its continued investment in tools that help deputies safely manage high-risk situations.

“The Grappler represents the kind of innovative technology that is changing how law enforcement safely manages high-risk situations,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This system gives our deputies the ability to quickly and precisely disable a vehicle in a controlled manner. Tools like the Grappler provide real-time solutions in dynamic situations and reflect our continued commitment to equipping our deputies with advanced technology that enhances safety, accountability, and effectiveness in the field.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said it continues to invest in technology like the Grappler that improves safety outcomes, strengthens operational effectiveness, and supports responsible policing in Central Florida.
