A 75-year-old Georgia woman was arrested after she unwittingly cut an underground cable while scavenging for copper, leaving millions of people in neighboring Armenia without internet service.
The woman, who has not been identified, was digging for copper when she accidentally cut a fibre-optic cable that provides 90 percent of Internet serve to Armenia.
Over 3.2 million web users were left without connectivity for more than five hours, according to news reports.
A spokesperson for the Georgia interior ministry said, “It was a 75-year-old woman who was digging for copper in the ground so that she could sell it for scrap,” reports guardian.co.uk.
The woman could face up to three years in jail if charged and convicted.
