With good police work combined with recent leads and DNA evidence, Orlando Police arrested another man in the shooting death of a teen that took place in 2007.
On December, 22nd, 2009, Orlando Police detectives arrested Desmond L. Owens in connection with the murder of Mark Lavell Williams. Owens is the second person arrested in this case. He has been charged with first degree murder. Police had received recent leads and results of DNA evidence led to Owens’ arrest.
On September 14th 2007, in the 4700 block of North Pine Hills Road, the victim, Mark Lavell Williams, 17, was attacked around 12:30 pm, while walking home from school. He was shot in the back and killed as he attempted to flee from his attacker.
Earlier this year, on october 19th 2009, Derrick DeSean Williams, 25 years, had been the first person arrested in the shooting death of Mark L. Williams. The shooting was retaliation for a burglary that Derrick Williams believed that Mark Williams had recently committed.
OPD did not have to go far to serve the first degree murder warrant on Derrick Williams as he was already in the Orange County Jail on unrelated charges. The additional First Degree Murder Warrant was served on him on 10-19-09 at 9:45 a.m.
There is no family relation between the murder victim Mark L. Williams and Derrick DeSean Williams, the first person arrested for the murder.
