The city of Sanford has experienced a spate of gun violence over the past four days, the most recent on Monday night.
Police say, last night, just after 9:00 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg and a female teen sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The shooting happened near the intersection of South Summerlin Avenue and McKay Boulevard.
“We need the community to come forward and work with us in partnership to put a stop to the gun violence,” said Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith.
Today, in an effort to confront the increasing levels of gun violence, a task force comprising the Sanford Police Department and Seminole County Sheriff’s office, was formed, to pool resources.
According to Smith, Sanford police offices will ramp up the number of “Walk and Talks” within the community, with the view to opening the lines of communication.
The next “Walk and Talk” will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, November 12, in the Washington Oaks neighborhood at 1:00 p.m.
