Girl, 11, Electrocuted after Falling into Small Pond at Orlando Resort

An 11-year-old girl who died after falling into a small pond at the Orange Lake Resort near Orlando, was electrocuted.

The Medical Examiner ruled yesterday that Ashton Jojo, 11, died as a result of electrocution, a statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ashton who was visiting from New York with her family was playing in the putt putt golf area inside the resort on Thursday. She was attempting to retrieve one of her golf balls, when she fell into a small pond nearby, authorities said.

A guest nearby in the golf area attempted to rescue her after she screamed, but he too suffered an injury as well.

Ashton was taken to Celebration Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Ashton had just celebrated her 11th birthday on June 22nd.

According to news reports, elecricial breakers were improperly placed in the pond of the Orange Lake Resort and inspectors said there were code violations.

Authorities said, the investigation is still an active one.

The Orange Lake Resort is located at 8505 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee.
