The Garden Theatre is pleased to announce the new play The Bikinis: A New Musical Beach Party. After opening to rave reviews at the Queens Theatre in New York, the Miracle or 2 Productions’ musical, The Bikinis, will make its Florida premiere at the Garden Theatre February 10-26, 2012.
Conceived by Broadway directors/producers Ray Roderick and James Hindman, The Bikinis: A New Musical Beach Party is a valentine to women who came of age at a time when America was also coming of age, with a pop/rock score that gives the audience a musical journey and ride through the times. Based on a true story of a beachfront Florida trailer park, “The Bikinis,” now all grown up, relive their youth and reunite their friendship, while celebrating the world that brought them together. Ray Roderick and Ryan McKinney will come to Winter Garden to direct and produce the show throughout its run.
The Bikinis stars Laura Compton as the folk rock and roller Annie, Elizabeth Dean as the passive-aggressive Jodi, Kendra Lynn Lucas as no-holds barred Barbara, and Carrie Prieto, who played Mother Abbess in the Garden Theatre’s The Sound of Music, as the fun-loving Karla. Jenn Roman, who most recently performed for TheatreWorks Florida’s production of Little Shop of Horrors at the Garden Theatre, serves as the understudy to all roles, as well as the swing and dance captain. The role of Betty, who makes appearances throughout the musical, is played by Becky Stafford, founding President and vision leader of the Garden Theatre.
Performances are Fridays through Sundays, February 10-26, 2012. For more information on The Bikinis: A New Musical Beach Party, visit gardentheatre.org.
