Game On! Otronicon is This Weekend at Orlando Science Center

 

gamefinalA four-day event Friday, Jan. 17 through Monday, Jan. 20, Otronicon is a celebration of interactive technology’s role in how we live, learn, work and play. The event features larger-than-life video game experiences, state-of-the-art medical and military simulators, workshops taught by industry pros, and so much more! The event has the opportunity to inspire a child’s interest in science and tech careers through the appeal of video games, interactive technology and virtual reality.

BRAND NEW TO OTRONICON V.9

· Microsoft and Sony present the latest in video game and home entertainment consoles with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, respectively. In addition, check out Microsoft’s Surface Pro 2 and Sony’s Personal 3D HDTV Viewer.

· Witness incredible exoskeleton technology in action. Lockheed Martin will showcase the HULC suit: an exoskeleton that helps dismounted warfighters carry heavy combat loads. And a pioneer of this technology, Ekso Bionics, will demonstrate the bionic suit that allows those who are wheelchair-bound to walk again.

· The UCF School of Visual Arts & Design and E2i Creative Studio present the first-ever Otronicon Game Jam, a 48-hour event that challenges teams of game designers to create a playable game on the Oculus Rift.

YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS…

· Microsoft will raffle an Xbox One system all four days for guests to win.

· Adult-targeted offerings on Friday and Saturday evening include a nerdy burlesque show by Skill Focus, a cash bar provided by Tuxedo Catering and geek trivia courtesy of The Cloak and Blaster. Live music with the band A Brilliant Lie will excite audiences on Saturday night only.

· Wearable technology — like Google Glass — is all the rage. Listen to pioneers leading the way in a special presentation and discover the impact wearable devices will have on our everyday lives.

· Discover how to make robots dance Gangnam Style with Robotis’ Bioloid Premium: an educational robot kit that teaches the basics of robotic structure and the principles of joints and movement.

· Get noticed in the Cosplay Contest. Dress as your favorite character from a video game, movie or any other pop culture source to win prizes.

· Vote for your favorite local filmmakers’ short film in the FilmSlam on Saturday.

COST, HOURS & MORE

Admission to Otronicon is $19 for adults and $13 for youth (ages 3-11). Tickets also include access to the new traveling exhibit “Zoom Into Nano,” giant screen and 3-D educational films, one Hollywood feature-length film, and live programming. Science Center members can experience Otronicon for free.

Otronicon is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 and Monday, Jan. 20.
