Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area has launched its fundraising effort for “National Women Build Week,” a volunteer-driven event designed to empower women to take action against poverty-level housing conditions. Habitat Orlando needs more fundraising teams to meet its goal of raising $100,000 – the cost to sponsor one Habitat home. Women Build Week runs from May 7 to 12 and will take place at the nonprofit’s first multifamily community, Stag Horn Villas.
“Right now, we really need financial contributions and fundraising teams to ensure the success of Women Build Week,” said Dee Danmeyer, president of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area. “Anyone interested in contributing can start their own fundraising team or donate online to one that’s already formed.”
Another fundraising component of Women Build Week is the steering committee – each member has committed to donate or raise $10,000 for this special week. Committee members include: Caroline C. Hardin, GE Capital Corporation; Deana L. Lewis, SunTrust Bank Central Florida Division; Rhonda Rhodes, Universal Orlando; Teresa Donaldson, Old Florida National Bank; Donna Maurer, Aon Hewitt; Deborah Taylor, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney; Patrice Phillips, Salem Communications Orlando; Carrie Gerhard, Delta Air Lines; and Megan Carmichel, Performance Roofing.
