The timing could not be better for what is shaping up to be a can’t-miss event sure to have adorable animal surprises to focus on the positive during the current challenging times. Franklin’s Friends, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to support Central Florida animal welfare, will be hosting its seventh annual HOWL-O-WEEN fundraising event on October 24, 2020. This year, HOWL-O-WEEN will feature an online costume contest as well as a massive Zoom call, which will have adorable pets in full costume, trivia, bingo, a virtual scavenger hunt, contests and more. 98.9 WMMO’s Denise Ryan will return to emcee.
“2020 has truly been a hard year for animal rescues and nonprofit organizations in general,” comments Franklin’s Friends founder Monisha Seth. “We’re so proud and excited that we found a way to still host HOWL-O-WEEN this year and that our supporters are willing to adapt and continue to show their love for the animals in our community, even if it’s virtually.”
Access to the Zoom meetup will be $5 per person. Individuals who raise or donate $50 and packs who raise or donate $500 will get free access. There will be a contest for best Zoom background as well as fun-filled virtual games. Costume contest winners and top individual and team fundraisers will be announced during the virtual event. Franklin’s Friends supports Central Florida by fundraising for local nonprofit and government agencies that are dedicated to Shelter/Rescue, Spay/Neuter, or Community Education projects. The organization raises money primarily through two signature events (both held virtually in 2020): the HOWL-O-WEEN Dog Walk-a-Thon and Canine Costume Contest and “Unleashed. Uncorked. Unframed.” gala.
To date, Franklin’s Friends has raised over $1.8 million for local animal welfare, most recently having raised over $106,000 virtually through the Unleashed. Uncorked. Unframed gala on August 22, 2020.
Prior grant recipients include Partnership for Paws, Husky Haven of Florida, Way Home Inc., Sophie’s Circle, The Pixel Fund, Daytona Beach German Shepherd Rescue, Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando and Osceola County Animal Services, to name a few.
