The Windermere Police Department has yet another scandal on its hands.
On Friday, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announced the arrest of a former reserve officer with the Windermere Police Department.
40-year-old Raul Carvajal, of Orlando, was arrested, accused of falsifying information on a Florida Uniform Traffic Citation in January earlier this year.
Carvajal’s fraud was uncovered during a FDLE investigation into alleged improprieties at the Windermere Police Department. He has been charged with one count of an organized scheme to defraud and was booked into the Orange County jail. Bond was set at $2,500.
Carvajal’s arrest comes on the heels of former Windermere Police Chief, 44-year-old Daniel Saylor’s own arrest in January. Saylor, who lost job as police chief, was charged with terminating an investigation by his department into sexual battery of a child to keep, his friend, Scott F. Bush, 50, from going jail.
Today’s arrest of Carvajal also follows the resignation, last month, of Windermere Town Manager Cecilia Bernier, who quit after she lost the confidence of town council members, including its Mayor Gary Bruhn. Bernier had served the Town of Windermere for twenty-eight years.
